Ridgefield Social Services Call for Community Support as Thanksgiving Approaches

Thanksgiving, not bountiful for all…

It’s Thanksgiving, the smell of roast turkey is in the air. The table is beautifully set, gravy and mashed potatoes are cooking on the stove, the oven is fighting hard to cook the turkey and all the sides that go along with it. Desserts are lined up on the counter, waiting to be devoured.

When people think of Thanksgiving, for most of us the description above often comes to mind. It is a uniquely American time for being with family, eating delicious food & sharing gratitude for the abundance in our lives. Unfortunately, not everyone in our beautiful town shares this experience. As a matter of fact, in Ridgefield, there are approximately 100 families (or 200 residents) who face food insecurity each and every day. Imagine not knowing where your next meal comes from!

Ridgefield Social Services works tirelessly to address these food insecurity needs. In 2020, when the pandemic closed down the Ridgefield Social Service food pantry, a gift card program was created in its place. Since that time, Social Services has provided over $500,000 in food gift cards (ex. Stop & Shop, Caraluzzi’s). Seventy percent of the recipients are seniors and single parents with children. This gift card program is making a difference, but it’s costly. Currently, Social Services is spending $10,000 a month and the need continues to grow.

You can help support Ridgefield Social Services by making a donation (one-time or recurring) to their food insecurity program. Your donation, will not only help a Ridgefield family put food on their table for Thanksgiving, but more importantly each and every day!
