Editor’s note: photo shows the team celebrating its big win over Darien

Over the past two weeks, the Ridgefield High School boys lacrosse team has elevated its season to a new level. After a lopsided win over Norwalk on April 29, the Tigers followed with a gritty road victory across the state line at Yorktown before notching their most impressive result to date: a 9–6 triumph over FCIAC archrival and perennial power Darien. The Darien win snapped a nine-game losing streak in the series and the signature win in Ridgefield’s 2025 campaign to date.

The Tigers now sit at 10–2 overall (2-1 in the FCIAC) and are achieving well-deserved regional and national recognition. According to the widely-followed website laxnumbers.com, as of today Ridgefield is ranked #2 in Connecticut, #5 nationally among public schools, and #31 nationally among all schools.  With four games remaining in the regular season and an FCIAC title within reach, the Tigers are on the ascent heading into the postseason.

April 29: Ridgefield 20, Norwalk 3

Ridgefield opened their recent stretch with a 20–3 win over Norwalk High School. The offensive onslaught featured contributions up and down the roster, and the result moved Ridgefield to 8–2 and set the tone for tougher challenges ahead.

May 6: Ridgefield 15, Yorktown (NY) 8

On the road at Yorktown, Ridgefield showed poise and resolve in a tale of two halves. After the Tigers were left clinging to a 7–6 halftime lead, Yorktown tied the game early in the third quarter. But from that moment on, Ridgefield took full control, scoring eight unanswered goals to overwhelm the Huskers for the remainder of the evening and coming out on top 15-8.

Senior attackman Jake Carney led the offensive surge with five goals, including two in the fourth quarter, while senior midfielders Des Couri (four goals and two assists) and Walker Fiore (three goals) helped ignite the Tigers’ second-half outburst.  Sophomore attackman Chris Colsey chipped in with two goals of his own. Goalie Dylan Penn was his usual steady self throughout, making 12 saves and anchoring a defense that shut down Yorktown for almost the entirety of the second half.

On a rainy Thursday night at Tiger Hollow, Ridgefield earned a long-awaited and emotional victory, defeating Darien for the first time since 2018. In a physical battle where every possession mattered, the Tigers delivered a composed, complete performance that served as a defining moment in their season.

After falling behind 2–0 in the opening minutes, Ridgefield did not panic and answered with a three-goal burst—two from Couri and one from Brandon Penn—to take the lead by the end of the first quarter. Levi Kessler added a second-quarter goal to give the Tigers a 4-2 halftime edge, and Ridgefield never trailed again. Clutch second-half goals from Carney, Kessler, and Liam Kristan (a beautiful wraparound goal after beating his defender from X)  allowed Ridgefield to maintain its advantage.  Dylan Penn was clutch in goal all night, making nine saves -- several of the highlight-reel variety -- to keep the Tigers in control and the Blue Wave’s offense at bay.

Brandon Penn dominated the faceoff X, winning 16 of 19 draws and giving Ridgefield consistent control in the slick conditions. The Tigers spread the wealth offensively, with six different players finding the back of the net and four others registering assists, including two from Colsey.

More than just another win, this result was a breakthrough. The Tigers played with confidence, discipline, unity, and calmness under pressure—hallmarks of a team ready to challenge for FCIAC and state titles. With just a few games remaining before the postseason, Ridgefield’s 10–2 record now comes with the belief that this team can achieve something special this spring.
