Ridgefield’s Downtown Named One of the 7 Best in Connecticut by World Atlas

It’s no surprise to those who live here—Ridgefield’s charming downtown is what draws visitors in and makes so many families want to call it home. With its mix of boutiques, a down-home hardware store, a picturesque indie bookstore, coffee shops, antique shops, a beloved toy store, and an array of eateries, Ridgefield’s downtown embodies the perfect blend of New England charm and vibrant community spirit. Now, World Atlas has named it as one of the seven best downtowns in Connecticut.

According to the World Atlas article, Ridgefield’s rich arts and cultural scene is a key part of what makes its downtown so special. The article highlights The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, a celebrated space for modern art, featuring a sculpture garden and outdoor amphitheater. It also mentions the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, which offers workshops, classes, and exhibitions that foster creativity in the community.

For live entertainment, World Atlas notes that Ridgefield is home to The Ridgefield Theater Barn, which has been staging comedies, dramas, and musicals since 1965, as well as The Ridgefield Playhouse. “The Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center is open seasonally and must-visit for anybody interested in being transported back to Ridgefield's early days,” the article states.

While World Atlas didn’t mention it, Ridgefield was named Connecticut’s first Cultural District in 2021, a testament to its thriving arts organizations, historic sites, and creative businesses.

Joining Ridgefield on World Atlas's list are Westport, New Canaan, Essex, Manchester, Chester, and Mystic, each recognized for their unique blend of history, arts, dining, and small-town charm.
