Welcome to Ridgefield Public Schools! We are excited to share this important milestone with your family. Below, you will find essential information to help you register your child for kindergarten.
Eligibility
• Age Requirement: Children who turn five (5) years old on or before September 1, 2025, are eligible for enrollment.
• Mandatory Age: According to Connecticut State Statutes, children must be five years old to start school. Parents who wish to exempt their child from kindergarten must meet with the local school principal to complete an exemption form.
Exceptions: A child who is not yet five years old on or before September 1 of the school year may be admitted if:
• The parent or guardian submits a written request to the school principal.
• The principal and an appropriate certified staff member conduct an assessment to determine if kindergarten is developmentally appropriate.
• All written requests must be submitted by April 1, 2025.
How to Register
1. Visit the Registration Page: Go to www.ridgefield.org/Registration_and_Immunizations to review the online registration process.
2. Start Registration: Scroll down and click on New Student Registration to complete the Registration Request form and submit it.
3. Receive Confirmation: Once approved, you will receive an email from PowerSchool with instructions for completing the online registration. (Please check your spam folder if you do not receive it.)
Note: Early registration is strongly recommended for planning purposes and to allow families to benefit from the transition process.
Registration Documentation
Have the following documents ready to upload online:
• Proof of Identity: A copy of the student’s birth certificate (with certification seal) or current passport.
• Parent/Guardian Photo ID: Driver’s license, passport, or state ID card.
• Proof of Residence: Acceptable documents include a warranty deed, mortgage statement, tax bill, or lease agreement, along with two utility bills. For more details, refer to the Registration Page on the District website.
Health Information
Connecticut State Department of Health requires proof of immunizations and a complete physical examination within one year prior to entry. This information must be recorded on the Connecticut Health Assessment Record (K-12).
Required Immunizations: Must be signed and stamped by your physician and include dates for:
• DTaP
• Polio
• MMR
• Hep B
• Varicella
• Hib
• Hepatitis A

• Kindergarten Medical History Form: This form, available on the RPS website, documents your child’s medical history. The school nurse will contact you for any additional required documentation.
• Submission: Preferred submission is online during registration, but it can be submitted to the school nurse later in the spring if necessary.
Meeting with the School
Once registration is completed, you will receive a confirmation email from the registrar. This email confirms that your child is pre-registered for kindergarten for the upcoming school year. Your home school will send additional details about Orientation and Mini-Kindergarten events as the dates approach.

Note: Arrangements can be made for registrations that occur after these meeting times.
In the spring, schools will host a one-hour Mini-Kindergarten experience for incoming students and a Kindergarten Parent Orientation to discuss what to expect in kindergarten (dates listed above). Pre-registered families will receive more information about these events. Early registration ensures you receive all relevant communications.
