Have you ever seen a triathlon and thought “I could never do that.”?
Or are you a runner, a swimmer, or a cyclist looking for a new challenge?
Then the Ridgefield Triathlon, known as TriRidgefield, is for you.
Each year, Ridgefield hosts TriRidgefield on the first week of June at Martin Park. In this event experienced athletes swim, bike and run side-by-side with beginners. People of all ages, from tweens to athletes in their 60s and 70s compete not only for awards, but for the joy of completing a challenge they might never have thought possible.
The race starts with a swim in Martin Pond, a half-mile of well monitored swim lanes with clear buoys to help navigate. Racers then move into transition, and out on their bicycles for a 12.5-mile tour of the north side of town, including some flat and fast sections, the downhill at Pope’s Corner, and of course, some of the Ridgefield hills (but not too many). Finally, they complete the last leg, a 5K (3.1-mile) with a strong downhill finish, to the finish line and a celebration of the spirit of accomplishment.
