Where Culture Meets Community: Ridgefield’s Story Told on Fox61

Today, Friday, April 25, Ridgefield took center stage on Fox61’s Morning News as part of the station’s ongoing spotlight on Connecticut’s Cultural Districts. Ashley Paltauf, Executive Director of the Ridgefield Playhouse, and Glori Norwitt, Chair of the Ridgefield Economic & Community Development Commission, joined the broadcast to discuss the town’s vibrant arts scene and its distinction as the state’s first designated Cultural District.

Paltauf highlighted the Playhouse’s 25th anniversary celebrations, which include a series of marquee events:

  • The Ridgefield Town Party on May 18, featuring a headline performance by alternative rock band Guster.
  • A celebrity softball game and all-star concert with NY Yankees center fielder and guitarist Bernie Williams on Saturday, June 14.
  • The 25th Anniversary Fall Gala on October 18, headlined by nine-time Grammy winner Sheryl Crow.
  • A special performance by José Feliciano on December 6, nearly 25 years after he inaugurated the venue in 2000.

Norwitt emphasized Ridgefield’s rich cultural landscape, mentioning prior Fox 61 guests, Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, and The Prospector Theater. She also gave a nod to Ridgefield Theater Barn, A.C.T. of Connecticut, and the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, noting that these nonprofits contribute significantly to the town’s creative economy and community engagement.

This segment follows previous Fox61 features on Ridgefield’s arts and cultural hubs:

  • On April 18, The Prospector was highlighted, with founder Valerie Jensen and employee Rachel Wise discussing its mission and impact.
  • On April 11, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum was featured, with Executive Director Cybele Maylone and longtime volunteer Cecilia Moyfradet sharing insights into the museum’s programs and community involvement.
