Why Small Businesses  Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community.

Meet Mary Jones, the owner of Rodier Flowers.

Tell me about when you purchased Rodier Flowers and why

I had the good fortune to purchase Rodier Flowers in 2008.  It was clearly a gem, having been an important part of the town's meaningful moments since 1951. It is a joyful business and I wanted in. What a meaningful way to be connected with our customers by being connected to their special occasions.  Soon after the purchase, I met the daughters of Rodier’s founder, Mary Wade Rodier [Mary Wade Rodier is shown in the painting behind Mary]. It was a "meant to be" kind of feeling with many connections and similarities.  I think of the Rodier daughters as big sisters.

How has Rodier Flowers grown and changed over the years?

Rodier Flowers was a small shop when I first bought it.  I moved it from its basement location to Main Street.  Since 2008, I've purchased four additional shops.  We've grown considerably.  Last year, we expanded and moved across the street to 381 Main Street.  It is light and bright, and we have many plants and gifts, too.  It's a place for a great shopping experience.

Tell me about the day in the life of a flower store owner on Valentine’s Day

Valentine's Day begins in December for a flower store owner - with so much preparation! The "Day Of" starts early, ends late and is exuberantly busy.  It is game 7 of the World Series (Mother's Day is the Superbowl.) The owner is selling, designing, wrapping, planning delivery routes, assisting staff with their customers, and praying for good weather.  Let's just say it is a multi-tasker's dream day.

Any special Valentine’s Day offerings?

So many folks think of Red Roses when they think of Valentine's Day.  It's definitely the number one go-to choice, but there are lots of options. Think: roses of all colors, mixed flower arrangements, wrapped bouquets, orchids and other plants. We have a great selection of additional gift items, such as candles, soaps and lotions as well as nature-inspired trinkets.  There's something for everybody. We love it when you order early.  We love it when you buy late. In other words… we got you!  Call, (203) 438-2912, click, or better yet visit!  We love company!

Rodier Flower is located at 381 Main Street in Ridgefield. Visit their website https://www.rodierflowers.net/ and follow along on social media @rodierflowers
