Why Small Businesses Matter
Editor’s note: The Grand Opening of the new SDSS Ridgefield studio location at 125 Danbury Road, Ridgefield, CT, in Copps Hill Plaza, takes place on Saturday, March 15, from noon to 3 p.m.
Meet Chris Roos, Chief Instructor at SDSS of Ridgefield.
Q: Why did you start your business
A: To combine my Martial Arts lifestyle with my love for teaching others, and to ultimately affect others' lives in a positive way!
Q: How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
A: We use a ton of local businesses to support us, including getting supplies from Party Depot, ordering pizzas for our parties from Planet Pizza, and ordering take-out from Mannen for summer camp. We've even worked with the Prospector Theater on collaborations when martial arts-themed movies have come out. At our Grand Opening Open House on March 15th, we are excited to have offerings from Stacey's Totally Baked, Fletch's Bagels, and Jersey Mike's for visitors!
Q: Have you "reimagined" your small business?
A: Absolutely! The biggest thing we do differently is that all of our instructors not only study every week with the masters of our style (far more than the industry standard), but we also frequently talk with each other and have meetings and seminars about effective teaching practices, and how to engage with our community. That's what makes us the best martial arts school out there!
