You're IT Joe Infurchia In-Home Piano Lessons!

Three questions with Joe Infurchia.

Why did you start your business?

I find that the piano is a universally friendly instrument that warms a household and creates a raw and immediately inviting atmosphere.  People are drawn to its presence and I really like being the one that gets to show them how they too can bring it to life with their own hands.  Starting piano lessons develops unique mental freedom in a powerfully abstract way, unlike any other art form.  The ability to control a ten-finger orchestra is an achievement that never gets old.  Whether a student is recreating pianistic water ripple effects in a scene from “The Little Mermaid”,  taking a bebop jazz solo from a Duke Ellington hit or thunderously unfurling a clamor of rich chords from a late Beethoven Sonata, the variety of musical moments that can be ennobled on a piano is endless.  These exciting explorations of ideas occur every day during our lessons.  Students have to tap into different parts of themselves while learning music and it is incredibly rewarding to see their development through the years.  They get to perform in our annual recital held at the Wilton Library each June and it really is the highlight of the year!

Finish this sentence in regard to your business: “I wish I could...”

Being in the field of music is already a dream come true.  I’m indebted to the many good teachers that influenced my life along the way and I’m fortunate to be able to teach piano to all ages from kindergarteners to retirees in the convenience of their homes and this makes each day productive, happy, rich and colorful.  I also deeply value my pedigree in teaching lineages directly back to many notable composers including Beethoven himself. This stems from more than one line of history through my multiple teachers and degrees.  Sharing this exclusive musical lineage and seeing it passionately extend to others in the area makes each lesson I teach feel special.  Alongside my deep classical studies, I also am a songwriter and like pop and jazz.  And so circling back to the initial question, I wish I could... slow the earth down to add a few more hours to each day in order for both my students and I to do what we already do and then practice more.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

As a one-man operation I rely heavily on word of mouth as well as a handful of local groups and businesses in town to advertise.  I boost my local presence with Westport Public Schools by purchasing advertisements in their concert programs.  I do the same for both the Norwalk Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestras. I’m also a Steinway Educational Partner with Steinway & Sons of Greenwich. The past seven annual studio recitals have all been held at the Wilton Library.  I purchase my books and materials at Bethel Music Center.  I use Mahard’s Piano Service for tunings and repairs. Francis S. Infurchia & Company of Norwalk does all my accounting and offers me business advice.

I nominate the Francis S. Infurchia & Company Accounting Firm!
