Business networking group Ladies Who Launch, in conjunction with Over 40 Females, presented an evening with noted radio show host, author, attorney and Fairfield County resident Lisa Wexler at Lyn Evans Potpourri Designs in New Canaan on May 9th.
Kathy McShane, managing director of the Southwestern Connecticut chapter of Ladies Who Launch and Christine Oleynick, Fairfield County chapter director of Over 40 Females hosted the event. The evening brought together women walking diverse career paths as they mingled over hors d'oeuvres and drinks before they settled in to listen to Wexler's informative and entertaining talk. She hosts and executive produces "The Lisa Wexler Show," which broadcasts from AM 1230 WFAS, Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. The program allows listeners to call in, covers a wide array of topics and features a varied group of guests.
"I like to say my show is debate without the hate," said Wexler during her talk. "I encourage respectful dialog so that all points are heard."
It has been quite the career journey for Wexler, all while balancing marriage and a family. "I always liked talk radio and wanted to be on it," she said. This in addition to a successful law career, first as counsel for a Wall Street firm, then for a corporation, and finally, her own practice specializing in real estate, trust and estates. "I wasn't happy doing that," Wexler admitted. "It wasn't worth the aggravation and stress."
"My happiness quotient is very high. I love what I'm doing," continued Wexler. She told the group that while it is important to do what you really love, it's also just as imperative to take a deep breath and slow down, and "set goals along the way."
Wexler also brought copies of the book, Secrets of a Jewish Mother, which she co-wrote with her mom and sister. The book offers anecdotes from Wexler's own family, plus homespun advice from the three women. Wexler signed copies and chatted with enthusiastic guests after her talk.
