TownVibe's Geoffrey Morris launches 501(c)(3) to support Ridgefield Independent Film Festival

Ridgefield resident and president of TownVibe, which publishes Ridgefield Magazine, Fairfield Magazine, Wilton Magazine, and other regional publications, has made a commitment to maintain his role as primary event and media sponsor for the annual Independent Film Festival held in Ridgefield.

Morris has also decided to take on new executive roles with RIFF when it became clear there was a need to continue the festival and broaden its scope and impact to include events throughout the year. "I believe RIFF inspires people with great films, great ideas, and great events to engage residents and bring more people, and attention to Ridgefield", he says.

"We really wanted the festival to continue and the best way to do that was getting more involved in guaranteeing its success. We have a new creative team and ambitious mission to grow the festival into a true celebration of film and our community."

The TownVibe Fund was created to encourage other business and civic leaders to become more involved in various arts programs and allow donations to RIFF to be made on a tax-deductible basis.

The 2018 Festival is being moved from the Spring to the Fall this year and expanded to 4-days, running from October 18 through October 21, a decision Morris explains is both strategic and practical.

"We think autumn is a perfect season to enjoy the town and all of its fall beauty, and take in a great film or party at one of the many local venues we're partnering with. It also gives us a little more time to get our ducks in a row and hold some signature events to raise our profile and outreach to engage more people leading up to the new festival dates."

RIFF is planning a number of community and social events, beginning with the Red Carpet fundraising kick-off and Oscar® screening Party at the Aldrich Museum on Sunday, March 4, at 7:30 pm. More information and Tickets are available at riffct.org/events.

"It's going to be a really fun night, not just watching the Academy Awards® in a fabulous venue with large screens, friends, food and drink ... but, we'll also have a lot of cool games, activities, and prizes to keep everyone entertained."

There are also plans for several other special events, including a hosted screening of HBO new series about ELVIS... programming tie-ins with RIFF screening partner, The Ridgefield Playhouse, and even plans to collaborate with the new ACT (A Connecticut Theatre) for music and performing arts events.
