Ridgefield Scout's Bottle Drive Feeds the Hungry in Ridgefield

Yesterday, ten-year-old Kyela McGuire, a Ridgefield Girl Scout with Troop 50550, presented two nonprofits in Ridgefield with donations from her "Bottle Drive". Part of her Presidential Volunteer Service Award, Kyela's fundraising efforts aided Ridgefield's Food Pantry and raised enough money to feed Meals on Wheels clients for a day.

With the help of Debra Franceschini, Meals on Wheels Board member, Kyela presented $502.00 to the Ridgefield Social Services Food Pantry and $502.00 to Meals on Wheels of Ridgefield, CT.

"We are so grateful to Debra Franceschini for all her help organizing.  Debra was a major part in sparking the idea for our daughter to start her bottle project and then helping to recognize her today at Town Hall," Kyela's mom, Melanie explains.

Ridgefield Town officials including First Selectman Rudy Marconi and State Rep. John Frey were also present yesterday to recognize Kyela's efforts.

"She is still beaming!" remarked Melanie.

"It was an honor to join in recognizing Kyela this afternoon— what an impressive young lady! She set out to make a difference - and 20,000 empty recycled cans later, she certainly has done just that," said Frey.

"If you are looking to volunteer with your family I highly recommend reaching out to Debra and finding how you can be a part of Meals on Wheels of Ridgefield, CT. As you can see all ages and abilities can volunteer," said Melanie.
