Ridgefield Social Services Receives Large Donation from Ridgefield Thrift Shop

On Thursday, March 15, Ridgefield Social Services received two large donations totaling $15,000 from Ridgefield Thrift Shop: $10,000 to help Ridgefield neighbors through our Town's Emergency Fund and $5,000 to help with summer camp costs for local families.

"I have been thrilled to watch the Thrift Shop grow and thrive since opening in their new location next door to Town Hall. Each day brings a full parking lot and people streaming in and out to see what new treasures they can find. But who would have imagined the success they've seen?" Ridgefield Social Services said on their Facebook Page. "Thank you to your Board, your volunteers, your donors and to all your shoppers for creating such a successful program that helps so many! Thank you Ridgefield Thrift Shop!" they added.

The Ridgefield Thrift Shop moved from Catoonah Street to a very visible and larger location at 20 Governor Street in May of 2017. Since then, the shop has grown leaps and bounds, doubling their profits and daily foot traffic. They were recently named Business of the Year by the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce. The Thrift Shop is staffed by volunteers.

The Thrift Shop is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which has supported the Ridgefield community for 80 years! The Thrift Shop goal is to empower and support local philanthropic organizations through the sale of generously donated merchandise at our store. Last year the Thrift Shop donated $160,000 to 40 organizations. "There are three essential elements to the success of the Thrift Shop – our donors, our customers, and our volunteers," they told HamletHub last spring.

Thank you to all of our residents who shop at the Thrift Shop and donate to the Thrift Shop!
