Keeler Tavern Museum and History Center Receives Grant from Ridgefield Thrift Shop for June Family Day

Keeler Tavern Museum and History Center (KTMHC) received a generous grant from the Ridgefield Thrift Shop to fully fund the museum's upcoming Family Day celebrating the centennial of the ending of World War I.

"We are proud to be able to support Keeler Tavern Museum and History Center's Family Day," says Ridgefield Thrift Shop President, Mary Ellen Loncto, "their work to bring Ridgefield's history to life through events such as Family Day make this community a special place."

"The Ridgefield Thrift Shop has been a generous supporter of KTMHC for many years and we're thrilled that they have been so successful in their new location," says Hilary Micalizzi, KTMHC President. "Their support of Family Day will allow us to pull out all the stops in putting together a fun and exciting celebration."

KTMHC's Family Day will be held on Sunday, June 17 and will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the ending of World War I (November 11, 1918). The event will feature period reenactors, including WWI soldiers, and a restored WWI ambulance. In attendance will be the Keeler Tavern's residents at the time, Cass and Julia Gilbert, who will host a send-off for departing doughboys, as they did during the war. There will be a life-size model of a trench in the barn, museum tours, and period music. The event will include displays of WWI posters and an exhibit of Ridgefield's involvement in the war by the Ridgefield Historical Society, kids' activities by the Historical Society and Ridgefield Library, as well as an info booth by the American Legion. Family Day is free and open to the public.
