Lynn Cohen, the wife of NY Mets broadcaster, Gary Cohen, is the brainchild behind the Fans of GKR (Gary, Keith, and Ron) Facebook Page, a social platform with a mission of giving back. “I am truly amazed and blessed to have found this platform to do what I do best - give and give of myself. And yes, there is some baseball talk!" she says.
Cohen’s Holiday Project - feeding the hungry, bringing warmth to the cold
“Each year, the Fans of GKR Facebook page joins together and works on a Holiday Project for those in need,” says Cohen, who hopes to make even more holiday dreams come true in 2018.
“Last year we gave dozens of gift baskets full of winter necessities to the Women's Center,” she explains. Handmade blankets, scarves, NY Mets crafted goodies, as well as warm clothing and gift cards, were donated to the Danbury-based nonprofit.
This year, Lynn’s focus is on warmth and hunger. “It breaks my heart and hurts me to my core when I think of anyone hungry and cold,” says Cohen.
The philanthropic community Cohen has created on Facebook is already stepping up to assure the 2018 holiday season is joyful for all. “I have a platform and this platform never lets me down.. I have never seen a group of people join together when I bring a person in need to them or even this yearly holiday project,” says Cohen.
Cohen is committed to personally making the 2018 holiday deliveries. “My plan is to go to Manhattan and find those in need personally and give them what they need,” she says. Cohen’s daughter, who lives on the West Coast, will follow in her mom’s footsteps. “My daughter will be the West Coast Elf. She sees many homeless each day - she will access the need and delivery accordingly!”
