Chekhov Theater Festival To Hold Fundraiser April 13

The Michael Chekhov Theatre Festival announces their spring fundraiser to be performed at the Ridgefield Theater Barn on Saturday, April 13 at 8:00 pm.

This will be a staged reading of Christopher Durang's "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike", the winner of the 2013 Tony Award for BEST PLAY which was inspired by the works of Anton Chekhov. The evening will include the performance, an assortment of light refreshments and one free drink. There will be a Chekhovian signature cocktail as well!

Durang's comedy revolves around middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia who share a home together in Bucks County, PA where they bicker and complain about the circumstances of their lives. Suddenly, their movie-star sister, Masha, swoops in with her new boy toy, Spike. Old resentments flare up, eventually leading to threats to sell the house. Also on the scene are sassy maid Cassandra, who can predict the future, and a lovely young aspiring actress named Nina, whose prettiness upsets Masha. The New York Times writes "deliriously funny.... a heedless good time." The actors performing in the benefit are Chris, Balestriere, Sean Hannon, Kate Katcher, Wynter Kullman, Lenka Pichlikova and Nancy Ponturo.

The Chekhov Festival is thrilled to announce their merger with The Ridgefield Theater Barn which will now act as their permanent home for their annual play festival. This year's festival celebrates its eleventh year and show dates will be October 18 and 19. Inspired by the innovative, imagination-based technique of Michael Chekhov, the festival is dedicated to discovering and welcoming original artists, presenting their creative work and offering sanctuary to experiment and explore new theatre in Ridgefield which has become a thriving theatrical hub. The nephew of famed playwright Anton Chekhov, Michael Chekhov (1891-1955) achieved fame in his own right as an actor/director/author who relocated his dramatic arts school from England to Ridgefield in 1939 in a barn off North Salem Road.

The Ridgefield Theater Barn is located at 37 Halpin Lane in Ridgefield. Tickets for the event are $40 and can be purchased at ridgefieldtheatrebarn.org.
