About Meals on Wheels

In 1972, an association of Ridgefield clergy identified a need in the community to care for folks who were unable to prepare their own meals due to age, illness, injury and other disabilities. With a $500 grant, Barbara Deegan, Marion Sloan and Annette Zelson started cooking in the basement of St. Mary School in Ridgefield. They delivered about 24 meals/week.

After 12 years and a couple of moves, we found a home at Ballard Green and cobbled together a working kitchen. In 2003, with a one-time grant from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, we were able to completely renovate and expand the kitchen to commercial grade. Today we serve 20,000 meals/year!
