Barlow Mountain 5th Grader Connor Kelly Leads School Effort to Support United for the Troops

When fifth-grader Connor Kelly heard that his fellow Barlow Mountain Elementary student council members wanted to do something “big,” he suggested that BMES consider supporting United for the Troops, a nonprofit his grandparents started in 2007.

Connor reports that every Barlow Mountain student made a card for the troops and families generously donated snacks, food items, batteries, and other necessities according to wishlists. BMES Principal Becky Laus notes that the UFT bins have been filling quickly and that the Kelly family have come to empty the red bins around Barlow several times to make room for more donations.
