Ridgefielders donate to orphanage in Kenya

In July, a group of twenty-two people, many from Ridgefield and surrounding towns, traveled to Kenya and Tanzania on a safari trip. During the planning, each traveler was asked if they wanted to bring an extra suitcase filled with needed items to donate to a local orphanage there called Arrive Kenya.

Friends, co-workers, and community members helped fill the suitcases while others sent checks. As a bonus, a deviation from the itinerary was made to see Brian Ash, the person who helped found the orphanage. Brian is a former RHS graduate who moved to Kenya almost a decade ago and set up his life and work there.

The trip was an unforgettable experience.  The wildlife, landscape, and culture were absolutely incredible.  One particular day to remember was July 13 when 24 lions were seen in one day in the Serengeti.  A talk about this trip with photographs will be held at the Ridgefield Library on Jan. 27, 2023 and at Founders Hall (date TBD).

The photo shows our group with Brian and his wife (center) and most of the donated items brought, with the suitcases stacked to the right.  Some suitcases were delayed on flights and arrived later.
