Community gathers for tree dedication honoring Ridgefield residents who died due to COVID

Today, members of our community gathered to remember and honor loved ones lost to Covid-19, including 79 Ridgefield residents. In the garden outside the Ridgefield Historical Society, an Autumn Brilliance Amelanchier tree was planted in dedication for those who died.

A plaque beside the tree reads, "This tree was planted in memory of those in or related to the Ridgefield community whose lives were taken by the Covid-19 Pandemic. They are missed, but their spirits live on in our memories.  Thank you to all who served in our community during the pandemic who helped keep our neighbors safe."

Spearheaded by Ridgefield Commission on Aging and former secretary Debra Franceschini-Gatje, today’s special event also recognized our first responders and included heartfelt words by First Selectman Rudy Marconi and Beth Anderson, Pastor of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church.

Thank you to Steve Zemo who maintains the beautiful garden outside the Historical Society and donated the tree. It will long serve to keep loved ones lost rooted in our love.

Ridgefield Historical Society is located at the corner of Sunset Lane and Grove Street.
