The Main Street Project continues to wind down with the last of the new signal lights soon to be installed at Governor Street. In addition, the controllers to manage the new traffic and pedestrian crosswalk signals are due to be installed this week, and tested shortly thereafter.
Weather permitting, testing will be completed by the end of May/first week of June; with the new signals going live shortly thereafter. This final stage of the work, combined with the new dedicated turning lanes, will allow Main Street traffic to flow even more smoothly and with less congestion and bottlenecks.
The trees and bushes planted last Fall are doing well. A handful of plantings will need to be replaced this Spring as they did not survive the winter. The CT DOT and the horticulturalists responsible for the landscaping will attend to the replacement of the necessary trees and bushes.
Finally, the work in the CVS parking lot, which is not a town project, is underway. The renewal of the parking lot will certainly complement the work done on Main Street. New asphalt, lighting, and trees will be a part of the parking area renewal. As the renewal of the lot is being done in phases, the disruption will hopefully not seriously inconvenience shoppers.
Over the next two months, the parking area will be thoroughly enhanced.
