Four questions with Peyton Cochran, founder of Epic Marketing & Design.
Why did you start your business?
I started my business in 2009 after moonlighting for years and always wanting to go off on my own. I was burning the candle at both ends and needed to make the decision to stop freelancing on the side or lean in and give it a try on my own. So I took the plunge which was terrifying but extremely liberating!
What is your best-selling product/service?
Concierge and DIY collaboration Interior Design packages. Whether it’s one room, a renovation, an addition, or a ground-up project we are able to tailor our services to our clients' needs. During Covid, DIY collaborations were a big seller. Now, we are extremely busy with full-service packages again.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
I frequently go to Ursula Designs in town for all sorts of accessories and odds and ends and design resources, for client gifts and baby gifts Bella Home is my go to, for client tabletop pieces and entertaining I love Bissell’s Attic and we are ALWAYS scouting and reselling unique at Silver Linings! And we would be remiss to not mention our go-to source of fuel for all events we host: Hoo Doo BBQ, O’Deens, and 850 Degrees.
Yes, when we moved to Ridgefield the week the world shut down in Covid- we had to regroup and devise a new way of conducting business. We put together design service packages that could be delivered through interactive presentation boards and DIY instructions on how to tackle work-from-home offices and kids'' play/study areas. While the margins were not the same the challenge was far more rewarding. It was a unique time we will never forget and many of the skills and tools we adapted are still being used today.
