Smoke in Ridgefield due to Nova Scotia Wild Fires, should subside soon!

Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department reported that the smoke you are seeing and smelling in town this afternoon is NOT due to a fire in our community.

"The smoke is coming from the Nova Scotia Wild Fires. Due to the smoke being low-altitude, it can be smelled while outdoors. The smoke will subside later this evening."

According to the CT DEEP, these levels are expected to exceed Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) levels for a period of four hours.

How do Forest Fires in Nova Scotia Impact Connecticut?

The DEEP says, "The smoke’s arrival from Nova Scotia is due to an unusual weather pattern that will bring easterly surface winds over Connecticut. This weather pattern will allow the smoke plume south of Nova Scotia to move west towards southern New England. The image here shows the fire location with the smoke plume from the EPA Fire and Smoke Map."
