Ridgefield High School students have spent their summer doing a variety of activities including traveling, playing sports, working, and even going to college! That's right, Pre-college programs for high schoolers are gaining popularity, and offer students the opportunity to board at, or commute to, colleges and take a wide variety of interesting courses.
Check out these RHS students who were lucky enough to spend some of their summer weeks at colleges around the Northeast:
Kate Lindenburg, incoming sophomore at RHS
- School she attended: Columbia University (New York, New York)
- Course: Creative Writing and a Journalism Elective
- Course length: 3 weeks (commuter, boarding was also offered)
Kate enjoyed this opportunity because she "Worked in a diverse environment with students across the globe, and received help and guidance from Columbia Graduate students in an intimate workshop setting."
Steffi Colao, incoming junior at RHS.
- School she attended: Brown University (Providence, RI)
- Course: American Consumer Studies which focused on the history of advertising, materialism, and the media.
- Course length: 2 weeks (boarding)
Maddy Pesce, incoming junior at RHS.
- School she attended: Georgetown University (Washington DC)
- Course: Law (including pre-law, criminal law and international law)
- Course length: 1 week (boarding)
Maddy said getting to study at Georgetown was fun, as well as a great opportunity and she enjoyed living on campus and going to classes like a real student.
