Today, July 29 at 1:59 am, Ridgefield Police officers responded to a one-car motor vehicle accident on Branchville Road (Route 102) near East Ridge Road in Ridgefield. The vehicle was traveling east when it crossed over the westbound lane leaving the roadway. The vehicle then stuck an embankment before coming to rest.
The operator, Carl Whitbeck, 43, of Ridgefield was transported to the Danbury Hospital for evaluation of his injuries and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
