109 Cheese and Wine hosts Wine Tasting tomorrow featuring wines from Spain

Wine tasting at 109 Cheese and Wine tomorrow, Saturday, November 5 with Gary!

Two reds this weekend but don’t let that stop you from drinking some rosé! Looking forward to a beautiful weekend!

Can Sumoi Xarel-lo 2021

So cool, this wine fermented with indigenous yeasts in tanks, twice-weekly batonnage (French term for stirring settled lees back into the wine) for a further 3 months in tank before bottling. This wine has no additives and is unfined and unfiltered.

The almost balsamic 2021 Xarel.lo has notes of fennel and aniseed and at only12% alcohol, it's very approachable with great freshness and a mellow mouth feel. This is clean, floral and detailed with nice a dry finish.

Enjoy this warm weekend with some Montealva goat cheese and a glass of this beautiful wine.

Universal Montsant Dido 2020

Created by Sara Pérez and René Barbier, the winery has only 10 hectares of vineyards near Falset, Spain. Technically a priorat, this wine is a luscious and bold red showing dark fruit and plum with subtle tannins for a wonderful mouthfeel. Grenache is the backbone of this Spanish red wine, complemented with variable amounts of Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. These vines grow in soils composed of sauló, a type of sand of granitic origin.

The grapes were brought to the cellar, cold-soaked and fermented in concrete vats. Then, in order to preserve the exceptional quality of the fruit, 40% of Dido la Universal 2020 was aged for 9 months in concrete vats, while the remaining 60% was aged in barrels of different sizes (from 300 to 4,000 liters).

This is a great wine for grilling, some of our favorite hard cheeses and some Serrano.
