The Ridgefield Playhouse Film Society Director’s Cut Film Series will screen the indie romantic drama Like Sunday, Like Rain on Sunday, September 13, at 7:30 p.m. The film showcases Green Day front-man and American Idiot composer/star Billie Joe Armstrong,  Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl, That’s My Boy, Country Strong, The Roommate and Date Night), Debra Messing (Nominated for 8 Golden Globe Awards, EMMY Award Winner; Will & Grace, Smash, The Starter Wife, The Mysteries of Laura, Along Came Polly, The Wedding Date), and introducing Julian Shatkin.  The drama, written and directed by Frank Whaley, made its premiere at The Sundance Film Festival and has garnered rave reviews.  Frank Whaley who is also known for his acting roles in Pulp Fiction and Showtime’s Ray Dovovan, will be on hand for a Q&A following the film screening.  Like Sunday, Like Rain is a coming of age story, between a live-in au pair named Reggie, (Julian Shatkin), a 12 year old skeptical musical prodigy. In Brooklyn, 23-year-old Eleanor (Leighton Meester) recently broke up with her failing and disloyal musician boyfriend, Dennis (Billie Joe Armstrong).  In order to leave Dennis, she had to move out from his place and crash at a friend's place while working at a Brooklyn cafe. Unfortunately, Dennis refused to let go of Eleanor and confronted her at her job; Dennis' tirade cost Eleanor her job. Surrounded by wealth and living with abundant resources in Manhattan, 12-year-old cello prodigy Reggie, lives a solitary life lacking only frequently absent parents and friends. Estranged from her family, Eleanor, a talented Cornet player and former Julliard student needs a place to live and a new job. Fate places the inexperienced Eleanor as the new au pair for a skeptical Reggie and the music in their hearts and souls intertwines to create this beautiful story about discovery, love and acceptance.  This event is hosted by Emmy Award winning journalist Ira Joe Fisher and sponsored by the Ridgefield Press.
