Expressions in Light Holiday Art Show by Tina Cobelle-Sturges and Hans Fischer at Keeler Tavern Museum

As part of Keeler Tavern Museum’s traditional Christmas Luncheons and Holiday Boutique, two Ridgefield artists, Tina Cobelle-Sturges and Hans Fischer will exhibit a selection of their work in the heated Cass Gilbert Carriage Barn from December 6 through 10, 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily, in a show titled “Expressions in Light.” An Artists’ Reception will be held on Sunday, December 4, 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.

All of Mr. Fischer’s and Ms. Cobelle-Sturges’ artwork will be for sale, as well as a selection of greeting cards. A portion of the artists’ sales will go toward the preservation of the Museum’s historic Carriage Barn, which was designed and built by renowned architect Cass Gilbert in 1910. Ms. Cobelle-Sturges will also be showing several new, abstract pieces.

According to her website, Ms. Cobelle-Sturges is best known for her radiant, colorful, and approachable paintings that blend small brush strokes with pointilistic technique to animate the canvas and bring country and city landscapes to life. Her extensive portfolio demonstrates her ability to successfully reflect the sensitivity of small town life on a New England main street or the busy urban streetscapes of New York City.

Ms. Cobelle-Sturges has completed numerous murals and other commissioned works for private collectors and is a contract artist with American Artists Group, a publisher of fine art stationery products.  Her vibrant painting of Ridgefield’s Main Street was featured on the cover of the commemorative millennium book, Ridgefield Enters the 21st Century, and is sold as limited edition lithographs.

Mr. Fischer’s approach to painting, according to his website, explores blending contemporary representational imagery with the abstract to visually merge those styles by utilizing a mix of media, texture, color, and strong composition to capture the sense of a place through its color and light. Mr. Fischer works with encaustic, oil, and acrylics, often combining them, to achieve unique, vibrant, translucent surfaces with strong graphic qualities that engage viewers.

In his work, he tries to capture the quality of light, the patterns seen in darkness and light, shadows and sun. Mr. Fischer uses powerful brushwork and bold color relationships to create complex ‘organic’ textures and to capture color and simple shapes, no detail, just an abstract “painting idea.”
