A Special Tribute and Performance to Celebrate Ridgefield’s 21st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Ridgefield

A Special Tribute and Performance to Celebrate Ridgefield’s 21st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Ridgefield January 16th, 2017 at 3pm

On Monday January 16th The Town of Ridgefield will present the 21st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration honoring two amazing people- Daniela Sikora, head of The Ridgefield Chorale, as well as a special posthumous award presented to the family of Tom Belote.

The afternoon will feature special performances by Broadway’s Daniel Levine and Bryan Perri as well as The Ridgefield Chorale, The Serendipity Chorale, Kimberly Wilson, Ridgefield A Better Chance and students from Keys, a non-profit organization that brings music education to underserved inner city children.  The event, which begins at 3pm at The Ridgefield Playhouse and is free to the community, was started 21 years ago by Ridgefield resident Mark Robinson and First Selectman Rudy Marconi has grown tremendously over the years.  “We went from doing this in the basement of Town hall and having a handful of people show up to being able to do this at The Ridgefield Playhouse and have approximately 250 people show up last year,” said Mr. Robinson, “what an amazing feat.”

In addition to an extra special entertainment lineup, this year’s honorees are also extra special. Ridgefielder Daniela Sikora recently started the Being Human Being Kind campaign, in partnership with the Ridgefield School District and other community arts and social groups, in an effort to bring attention to the subject of bullying and offer programs to help victims and bring healing to our community.  Also this year, a special posthumous award will be presented to the family of Tom Belote in recognition of Tom’s tireless advocacy and activism on behalf of immigrants to America and to our community.

Because these remarkable individuals have made a tremendous impact on the Ridgefield community they are truly deserving of this honor.  For more information about the Martin Luther King Jr event, please call the box office at 203-438-5795, or visit ridgefieldplayhouse.org.  The Ridgefield Playhouse is a non-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street, Ridgefield, CT.
