It may come as a surprise that heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States and the No. 1 killer of women at every age. The good news? It is also one of the most manageable, and possibly preventable.
RVNA is offering a public forum Wednesday, May 10th on the subject of cardiac health. “Matters of the Heart” will consist of a panel of health care experts, including Dr. Brian D. Pollack, Cardiologist with Cardiac Specialists PC.
“The goal of the forum is to provide the community with the most up-to-date information surrounding heart health. Our hope is to raise awareness and offer strategies for preventing heart disease.” Said Barbara L. Newland, Director of Community Health & Wellness for RVNA and moderator for this event. “We are gathering a multi-disciplinary panel of experts that can specifically address heart health and take questions from the audience.”
In addition to Dr. Brian D. Pollack, Cardiologist, the forum will include Gigi Weiss, MSPT, CDP, CKTP, Physical Therapist & RVNA Director of Rehabilitation Therapy and Meg Whitbeck MS, RDN, RVNA Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Educator.
Topics of conversation will include how lifestyle factors, including nutrition, play a key role in heart disease; how cardiac rehab’s expertise is part of a multi-disciplinary health care option; and what the newest heart disease advances in diagnosis, medications, and non-surgical treatments are today.
“Making heart-healthy lifestyle choices and taking control of your cardiovascular risk factors can help prevent or slow the progression of heart disease.” Says Dr. Pollack. “No one is immune to heart disease, but it is largely preventable based on your habits, activity level and quality of your nutrition. It’s the overall pattern of your choices that count and will make the difference for long-term benefits to your heart and your health.”
This event will take place at RVNA’s Center for Exceptional Care, located at 27 Governor Street in downtown Ridgefield, on Wednesday, May 10th from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. It is free and open to the public. Please sign up by calling RVNA at 203-438-5555.
