The Michael Chekhov Theatre Festival Movie & Celeb Bartender Evening on August 9

On Wednesday, August 9th at 6:00 pm, the Michael Chekhov Theatre Festival in co-sponsorship with the Ridgefield Library, is hosting a screening of an important documentary about Michael Chekhov. The documentary titled From Russia to Hollywood was created and co-produced by Lisa Dalton, President of the National Michael Chekhov Association. Lisa Dalton is also the creator of the first two international Michael Chekhov workshops in the Americas. She has spoken at previous Chekhov festivals in Ridgefield.

To create this film, Ms. Dalton interviewed numerous illustrious actors to gain testimonials. In these interviews, the actors reveal what Michael Chekhov and George Shdanoff’s teachings meant to their careers and lives. Gregory Peck narrates and joins other Hollywood legends as they talk us through the story of these two acting masters. The movie runs a little over an hour.

Registration is encouraged at ridgefieldlibrary.org or by calling 203-894-9163. After the screening, movie viewers are invited to go across the street for a celebrity bartender event at Yuan Asian Cuisine Restaurant (470 Main Street, back parking lot side).

Board members Jeffery Albanesi and Bob Ponturo will delight guests with witty conversation while they pour drinks from the restaurant’s bar. Twenty percent of the bar proceeds will go to the Michael Chekhov Theatre Festival and help pay for the innovative professional performances scheduled for the 2017 festival, which this year spans two weekends: Saturday September 16th to Sunday September 24th. Selection of the shows will be finalized shortly. Already in place is a family-friendly Shakespeare performance in Ballard Park on Saturday, September 16th. Once again Thrown Stone will present a reading of their next project, A Simple Conversation.

The Michael Chekhov Theatre Festival celebrate the legacy of Michael Chekhov, the great actor, teacher and humanitarian, who directed and taught in Ridgefield, Connecticut over a half century ago. Michael Chekhov provided actors a method to access the imagination and tools to facilitate their artistic expression. In the spirit of Michael Chekhov, we seek to enhance the cultural landscape of the region and make Ridgefield a destination for compelling new and classical professional theatre.
