Stephen Sondheim’s legendary musical, Follies, staged for the first time at the National Theatre of London, will be shown in an encore broadcast in HD at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Sunday, January 7th at 6:30pm as part of the Benchmark Senior Living at Ridgefield Crossings Live in HD & Classical Series with support from The Ridgefield Press and Whistle Stop Bakery.
Tracie Bennett, Janie Dee and Imelda Staunton play the magnificent Follies in this dazzling new production. Featuring a cast of 37 and an orchestra of 21, the show is directed by Dominic Cooke (The Comedy of Errors).
New York, 1971. There’s a party on the stage of the Weismann Theatre. Tomorrow the iconic building will be demolished. Thirty years after their final performance, the Follies girls gather to have a few drinks, sing a few songs and lie about themselves. This beautiful production captures the glamour of the golden age of music halls and revues, with gorgeous showgirl costumes bedazzled with Swarovski crystals.
