Classic rock guitarist and frontman Mark Farner at The Ridgefield Playhouse March 22 with opening act Doug Wahlberg Band

“We’re An American Band,” “Some Kind of Wonderful,” “I’m Your Captain (Closer to Home),” and a recut of “The Loco-Motion,” are just a few of the songs that platinum-selling recording artist Mark Farner set loose on the psyche of American rock and roll. At age 69, the all-American frontman and guitarist for the original Grand Funk Railroad commands the stage with the same intensity as he did at 20 duringthe summer of love. The rock patriot’s synergy and open heart come through again and again in epic hits that defined a generation. See Mark Farner at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Thursday, March 22nd at 8 pm. Mark Farner's unmistakable voice and guitar sound are the identifying marks of Grand Funk Railroad and led the band to the top of the charts. Even after 40 years on the road, some sort of magical transformation takes place whenever Mark steps on stage. When Mark performs, he's the consummate, professional rocker who's lost none of his chops. His voice is still clear, strong and on key, his guitar playing slick and lightning quick and his trademark prancing still that of a spring chicken. Offstage Mark puts his pants on one leg at a time and is as ordinary as dirt. He was never destined for Flint's auto factories but he was never destined for the "Hollyweird" Hills either. Mark's heart and home lay north of Michigan's rustbelt where he can do the things he loves most -- compose, record, farm, fish, hunt and race around like a nut job on anything with a motor.

Gritty and laid back while hypnotic and driving describes the music of opening act Doug Wahlberg Band, which has been electrifying audiences for years. While reminiscent of British and American classic rock, Doug Wahlberg Band brings a modern approach to a retro sound.
