Bets are ON! Local nonprofits are shuffling their cards and upping the ante for the town’s inaugural charity poker tournament! Here, we talk with Charity Poster masterminds, Laureen Bubniak Ridgefield Library Director of Development and Rob Ellis, poker and nonprofit enthusiast.
Poker for charity – brilliant. Tell me about the mission behind the tournament madness.
This is part of the Library’s mission is to work with community non-profits in enhancing Ridgefield’s quality of life. We have found many ways to leverage our resources in partnering with Ridgefield non-profits and thought there might be a way to augment our development activity with fulfilling that promise.
It’s a win-win. Locals can play for their favorite nonprofit. Who’s anted up thus far (aka – nonprofits represented)
First Congregational Church, Full Court Peace, Lewisboro Ambulance Corps., Ridgefield A Better Chance, Ridgefield Boys and Girls Club, Ridgefield Library, Ridgefield Little League, Ridgefield Meals on Wheels, Ridgefield Playhouse, RVNA, St. Mary’s School Annual Fund, Sphere, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Stamford Boys and Girls Club, Turn 2 Foundation, Vahlsing Foundation.
YES! But hurry! The deadline is tomorrow, Thursday, May 31.
How do you register to compete for your charity?
Go to the home page of the Ridgefield Library website at www.ridgefieldlibrary.org or click here to register. For more information call Laureen Bubniak, Director of Development, Ridgefield Library at 203-438-2282 Ext. 11029.
Tell me about how the event will roll?
winner-take-all Texas Hold ‘Em with accelerating blind and half-blind bets that should keep the tournament under three hours. Along with a onetime additional buy in there will entertainment and others games to amuse those who drop out of the tournament by the way.
Besides bragging rights, what does the winner get?
The charity of the winner’s choice will get a payout scaled to event participation. The Library is underwriting the risk of raising enough money to cover expenses and the winner’s charity will receive the first $2500 after those expenses are paid with revenues beyond that split between the winner and the Library.
Anything you wish I asked?
Yup. Cigars will be hand rolled by CC Cigar of Stamford and entertainment provided by singer/guitar player James Zap of Ridgefield!
