Art, Wine & Jazz With Guitarist Al Di Meola at The Ridgefield Playhouse on June 16

A bona fide guitar hero and perennial poll-winner, Al Di Meola has been recognized internationally over the past four decades as a virtuoso of the highest order. A prolific composer and prodigious six-string talent, Di Meola has amassed more than 20 albums as a leader while collaborating on a dozen or so others with the likes of the fusion supergroup Return To Forever (with Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White), the celebrated acoustic trio featuring fellow guitar greats John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia, and the Rite of Strings trio with bassist Clarke and violinist Jean-Luc Ponty. Di Meola’s ongoing fascination with complex rhythmic syncopation combined with provocative lyrical melodies and sophisticated harmony has been at the heart of his music throughout a celebrated career that has spanned four decades and earned him critical accolades, three gold albums and more than six million in record sales worldwide. Al Di Meola brings his Notorious Electric Tour 2018 with music from Elegant Gypsy to Opusto The Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, June 16 at 8pm, part of the Moffly Media Evening of Art, Wine & Jazz Series. Join us in the lobby at 7:15pm for a complimentary wine tasting by Pera Wines and an art exhibit by Elizabeth Hasegawa Agresta.  Elizabeth is a third generation artist who studied painting, print-making, and exploratory mixed media at Silvermine Art in New Canaan. Make it a great night out with dinner and a show! Visit Eddie’s Pizza & Pasta (24 Prospect Street, Ridgefield) the night of the show and enjoy a complimentary glass of house wine with your entree when tickets are presented! Media partner for this event is 89.5 WPKN, The Real Alternative.

Jazz guitarist Al Di Meola is revered for his dazzling, complex fretwork and known for blending jazz fusion, Latin fusion, acoustic style and world music. And while his extraordinary technique on both acoustic and electric guitars has afforded him regal status among the hordes of fretboard fanatics who regularly flock to his concerts, the depth of Di Meola’s writing along with the soulfulness and the inherent lyricism of his guitaristic expression have won him legions of fans worldwide beyond the guitar aficionado set.

Featured artist Elizabeth Hasegawa Agresta finds herself amazed and inspired by the contrasts to be found in the city. Gorgeous architecture is reduced by grit, grime & rust.  A person can find themselves feeling alone among the millions. And within the constant noise, one can discover a certain silence of the soul. Elizabeth intentionally pauses to take in the whole experience so that she can bring it back to life in her paintings.

For tickets ($49.50 - 149.50) call or visit the box office, 203-438-5795 or go online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org.  The Ridgefield Playhouse is a non-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street, Ridgefield, CT.
