Butterfly Walk with Lepidopterist Victor DeMasi in Ridgefield on July 21

The Discovery Center at Ridgefield is hosting a butterfly program for all ages on Saturday, July 21st at 10:00 A.M. in the parking area at the Norwalk River parking area (the intersection of Route 7 and Simpaug Turnpike) in Ridgefield, CT.

Local lepidopterist Victor DeMasi will lead this program. Mr. DeMasi will share a collection of the fauna with a short discussion on butterfly ecology and conservation.  The program will continue with a field walk in one of the most outstanding meadows in Connecticut to observe butterflies on the wing and present a few specimens for close examination, which will be released unharmed.

Mr. DeMasi is a research associate at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History. He has studied butterflies for the last forty years in Connecticut and far away places such as the Amazon basin and Ethiopia.

Participants can park in the Norwalk River Study site's small parking lot across from at 10 Simpaug Turnpike.  Long pants and sturdy shoes and tick protection are advised.

All ages are welcome, but children must be supervised.  Members and non-members are free. Please call 203.438.1063 or visit the DC website www.ridgefielddiscovery.org to make reservations.
