Comedian, Dana Carvey brings The “Humans Are Fantastic” Tour Featuring The Carvey Brothers to The Ridgefield Playhouse September 12th!
Emmy winner Dana Carvey is best known for his “Saturday Night Live” characters. Who could forget the Church Lady; Hans, of the Hans & Franz body-building duo; Garth, Wayne Campbell’s (Mike Myers) ‘Excellent Co-Host’ of “Wayne’s World,” and Weekend Update’s Grumpy Old Man? Praised for his comedic impersonations of political figures: George H.W. Bush, Ross Perot, Jerry Brown, and Bob Dole, Carvey has received a total of six Emmy nominations and was honored with The American Comedy Award as Television’s Funniest Supporting Male in 1990 and 1991.
Dana Carvey returns to The Ridgefield Playhouse stage with the “Humans Are Fantastic Tour” on Wednesday, September 12at 8pm, part of Barts Tree Service Comedy Series. The Carvey Brothers, Dana’s sons Dex and Tom, will open the show.
Carvey joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live” in 1986, creating indelible characters who resonated with the times and revived the show’s (at that time) dwindling popularity. His uncanny impressions of famous politicians and celebrities such as Tom Brokaw, Regis Philbin, Johnny Carson, Bob Dole, Ross Perot and, most memorably, George H. W. Bush impressed even the originals. His short lived variety series (aired in winter-spring of 1996) “The Dana Carvey” show spawned the careers of the likes of Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell, Louis C.K. Charlie Kaufman and more, as well as a recent Hulu documentary by Josh Greenbaum, Too Funny To Fail, The Life & Death of “The Dana Carvey Show.” Carvey has appeared in numerous films, usually in memorable cameos such as This is Spinal Tap as the mime waiter, the referee inLittle Nicky, and of course as Garth in Wayne’s World and Wayne’s World II.
Poised to take over the family business, The Carvey Brothers have been performing stand-up and producing comedy videos for the past few years. Dex (27) and Tom (25) – born while their father was filming Wayne’s World andWayne’s World II respectively -- were raised away from the spotlight of Hollywood, but were drawn to the entertainment business nonetheless, following in their dad’s footsteps.
