Holiday Art Show featuring New Works by Tina Cobelle-Sturges Opens on December 2 at Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center

This year’s Holiday Art Show at Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center’s historic Carriage Barn will feature new works by acclaimed Ridgefield artist Tina Cobelle-Sturges. The exhibit opens on Sunday, December 2, from 3 – 6 p.m. with an artist’s reception, and continues during the week of Christmas Luncheons, from Tuesday, December 4 to Saturday, December 8, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All of Ms. Sturges’ artwork as well as her popular series of greeting cards will be for sale. A portion of the artist’s sales will go toward the restoration of the historic Carriage Barn, which was designed and built by renowned architect Cass Gilbert in 1910.

Known for her memorable renditions of structured landscapes dabbed with human activity, such as Ridgefield’s Main Street, Ms. Sturges began exploring in 2016 more fully abstract work as a genuinely intimate form of fluid expression. Her recent body of oceanscapes on public display for the first time during the Holiday Art Show reflect her meditative and introspective in sensitivity to light and atmosphere.  Says Ms. Sturges, “My new works try to draw the viewer into paintings featuring texture and giving a great deal of movement, energy and color. My oceanscapes elicit the invigorating joy of a coming storm and simultaneous emotional calming of the setting sun. I love gathering and showcasing my paintings in the warm, rustic Cass Gilbert Carriage Barn at Keeler Tavern Museum; I feel honored with the opportunity to show in this valued historic place among great artists.”

Tina Cobelle-Sturges grew up in Ridgefield, Connecticut with her father, internationally known and prolific artist Charles Cobelle, as her primary art teacher. Her extensive portfolio of paintings demonstrates her ability to strike a balance between realistic, impressionistic and abstract genres.  She paints equally successfully reflecting the sensitivity of small-town life on a New England main street or the busy urban streetscapes of New York City.  Ms. Sturges approaches each canvas as an individual expression, anticipating her audience’s desire to emotionally connect with the scene, be amused or find a peaceful individual moment.  Her choice of place, color and activity embrace the cadence and harmony of the scene as it comes alive through paint, brush and canvas.

The Holiday Art Show is part of KTM&HC’s traditional suite of holiday offerings during the Christmas Luncheons week from Tuesday, December 4 to Saturday, December 8. In addition to lunching and enjoying the Holiday Art Show, visitors will be able to take a tour of the festively decorated Museum and shop the Holiday Boutique, including local crafters set up for the first time in the new Visitor Center, for a selection of unique gifts.
