Enjoy a Pancake Breakfast at St. Stephen’s and Meet Beagles this Sunday

St. Stephen’s Church is hosting a community pancake breakfast this Sunday, May 19, from 9-noon, that will benefit BeFreegle Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing sanctuary, rehabilitation and placement of beagles that had been used for laboratory research. Special guests will be four beagles that were previously adopted through the foundation. The breakfast is at the church’s North Hall, 351 Main St., and is free, although donations will be accepted on behalf of the Foundation.

One of the guests will be Benji, a two-year-old beagle whose adoption by Sue and Michael McKnight of Ridgefield, got under way at last May’s breakfast.   “We filled out the forms right there,” said Sue. “Overall the adoption process was easy and well organized. When we got a call that a group of beagles had arrived from California and was ready for adoption, we went to their foster home and met six adorable dogs. It was hard to choose, but one kept jumping up for attention, and we knew he was the one.”

According to Bill Murrell, a member of St. Stephen’s Outreach Committee, which sponsors the breakfast, BeFreegle Foundation goes to great lengths to match the right dog with the right family.

“Having Benji has been such joy,” said Sue. “He was shy and nervous at first, and we have loved seeing his personality come out. For months he didn’t bark. Then one day he barked at the vacuum cleaner, and we knew Benji had a voice.”
