Ridgefield College Essay Writing Boot Camp

A College Essay Writing Boot Camp for rising High School seniors will be held July 22 to 26, from 8:30am to 12:30pm each day in Ridgefield. Led by two experienced writers, Frances Greathead and Ridgefield resident Jen Mathy, the workshop is limited to 12 students.

“I helped my own son through the college application process last year, and I know how daunting it can be,” said Jen Mathy, who holds an MFA in Writing from Bennington College. “Our hope is that the Boot Camp will be fun, revelatory, and supportive, and take the stress out of writing the college essay.”

Frances Greathead is a writer and teacher who worked as a college counselor for five years at a nationally-renowned education nonprofit. She has been published in the Massachusetts Review, has her Masters in Teaching from UMass, and holds an MFA in Writing from Bennington College. Jen Mathy has been a public relations writer and marketer for more than 20 years, worked for Northwestern University and currently manages the social media for Bennington College. She has placed articles in The Chicago Tribune and Orange County Daily. Together, they have helped students who have been accepted into Amherst, Bowdoin, Georgetown, Michigan State, Penn State, Virginia Tech, West Point, UMass, and elsewhere.

The workshop will be a mixture of group exercises and critiques, one-on-one sessions with an instructor, and individual writing time/exercises. The week-long bootcamp is $400 per student.
