The Ridgefield Playhouse will stream Opera superstar Andrea Bocelli singing on Easter Sunday in Italy's empty Duomo Cathedral

While we are all still separated by social distancing The Ridgefield Playhouse is keeping the arts alive and accessible by doing live streams on their Facebook page.  One of these special events will be a simulcast of an Easter Sunday broadcast of Andrea Bocelli LIVE from Milan’s famed Duomo cathedral.

Like most churches this Easter, the historic Duomo Cathedral in Milan, Italy, will be closed to the public due to the coronavirus pandemic.  But over the empty pews on Sunday, the voice of Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli will echo through the cathedral during this special audience-free concert. Bocelli, who will be accompanied only by the cathedral organist, Emanuele Vianelli said he hopes that the Easter concert, which will consist mostly of spiritual songs like "Ave Maria," and "Sancta Maria," will provide some comfort to viewers regardless of their religion.

The famed opera singer, who has been blind since age 12, has sold more than 90 million albums worldwide, and is widely known for his success as a crossover performer, bringing classical music to the top of international pop charts.  "This year, Easter will be very different for all of us," Giuseppe Sala, the mayor of Milan, said in a statement. "The joyous serenity that usually comes with this day, has been greatly troubled by the pandemic we are experiencing. I am sure that the extraordinary voice of Bocelli will be the embrace we are missing these days, a strong, special hug, capable of warming the heart of Milan, Italy and the world."

Andrea Bocelli, who is doing this event free of charge, is calling his concert "Bocelli: Music for Hope." The live stream will begin on Sunday, April 12, at 1pm Eastern Time (7pm Central Europe Time) and can be accessed through The Ridgefield Playhouse Facebook page.  Visit The Ridgefield Playhouse website at ridgefieldplayhouse.org or follow the Facebook page for an ever-expanding list of musical events to stream from the comfort of your home.
