Largest Pumpkin EVER to Tip Scales in Ridgefield at Yesterday's Weigh Off

Giant pumpkin growers from all over the country gathered at The Lounsbury House yesterday to see how their gigantic gourds measured up. If you didn't know about it, you weren't supposed to! Due to COVID-19, this year's community event was canceled. Only the growers and organizers of the event were in attendance.

Ridgefield giant pumpkin grower and event organizer, Steve Maydan reported a record turnout for pumpkins. Pumpkin enthusiast, photographer and event co-chair, Jessica Collins told us that history was made yesterday by way of the largest pumpkin ever to tip the scales in Ridgefield. The beauty rolled in from Rhode Island courtesy of Joe Jutras and weighted a whopping 1,954 lbs!

Second place honors went to Steve Sperry, also from RI, with his 1,864.5 pound giant pumpkin. Steve Maydan won the giant squash category with his 521 pound green giant. Zach Scott from NY won the youth category with his personal best pumpkin tippng the scales at 1218.5 pounds.

Dan Kruszyna won the marrow category with his 67 pound marrow (a marrow is a green squash that looks a bit like an overgrown zucchini). Ken Carlson and Steve Maydan, both from CT, took 1st and 2nd place in the long gourd category with giants measuring 94" and 84".
