Tapping into the Past: Tavern Life in Early Connecticut on March 16

Connecticut Historical Society to Present at Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center: “Tapping into the Past: Tavern Life in Early Connecticut”

Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center has a long history of being a community gathering place. In the eighteenth century, as a working tavern, the historic structure helped connect Ridgefield residents to people, information, and ideas from the New England region and beyond.

Learn about how taverns were an essential part of every Connecticut town – including Ridgefield – on Tuesday, March 16, as Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center hosts educators from Connecticut Historical Society (CHS) on Zoom. CHS’s Natalie Belanger, Adult Programs Manager, and Taylor McClure, Museum Educator will explain how, in early Connecticut, taverns were more than just a place to drink. Travelers and locals alike saw taverns as a place to be entertained, spread news and gossip, have a good meal, and get a night's lodging.

“We’re thrilled to be able to include one of Connecticut Historical Society’s great programs at our museum,” said executive director Hildegard Grob. “This presentation helps put Keeler Tavern’s unique history into a broader regional context.”

This event will take place on Tuesday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m. and is free with a suggested donation of $5 per participant. To register, click here.

Be sure to also join us at KTM&HC on Thursday, April 29 for CHS’s second virtual program: “Tories, Spies, and Traitors: Divided Loyalty in Revolutionary Connecticut.” To register, click here.
