Alcee Chriss III to Present Organ Recital at St. Stephen’s on Sunday

Immediately upon the conclusion of this Sunday’s 5 p.m. Choral Evensong at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Alcee Chriss III, minister of music and one of the leading young organists of our time, will present a brief recital. The Evensong service and organ performance, which will be live streamed, will also welcome in-person attendance. For in-person attendance, please register on Eventbrite here .

Choral Evensong, a service of prayers and music, is a staple of the Episcopal Church’s Anglican heritage. The event on May 23, Pentecost Sunday, will celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit.    In addition to hymns and anthems, the St. Stephen’s Choir will sing two canticles, the Magnificat and Nunc Dimitis..

During his recital, Dr. Chriss will present works by David Johnson, Henry Purcell, J.S. Bach, Robert Schumann and Max Reger. First-prize and Bach prize winner at the 2017 Canadian International Organ Competition, Dr. Chriss is University Organist and Artist-in-Residence at Wesleyan University, in addition to his post at St. Stephen’s.

There is no admission charge to the 5 p.m. Choral Evensong or to the organ recital, although donations are always welcome.
