Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra Returns to the Stage October 2nd with HOPE

In its highly anticipated return to the stage, the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra (RSO) will be in concert on Saturday, October 2nd at 7:30 PM at the Richardson Auditorium located in Ridgefield High School. The RSO will perform an inspiring program titled “HOPE”, including the beautiful and dramatic Symphony No. 7 by Jean Sibelius and the long-awaited world premiere of “A More Perfect Union” written by Paul Frucht and produced by RSO Music Director Yuga Cohler.

“A More Perfect Union”, which was originally scheduled to premiere in April 2020, is an engaging song cycle inspired by the prose of six presidential speeches given by Barack Obama. Frucht’s piece approaches the prose as an art form, not from a political perspective. Advising on the composition was Obama Director of Speechwriting Cody Keenan, who grew up in Ridgefield, CT.

“After nearly twenty months since our last performance with the full orchestra, we are thrilled at the prospect of having the musicians back on stage and welcoming our audience back into the concert hall”, says RSO Executive Director Laurie Kenagy. “‘HOPE’ is the perfect program to present after so many months away. It is inspirational, and celebrates music as art, as a means to express deep and dynamic feelings, and as a way to bring people together.”

The October 2nd concert will be conducted by RSO Music Director Yuga Cohler, and will feature Jorell Williams, an acclaimed American operatic baritone with a wide variety of experience from standard repertoire to premiere pieces. “. . . Jorell Williams steals the show with his easy charm and stunning vocals that cut through the music that often overpowers the voices of other cast members.” Seattle Times of Williams’ performance as Dizzy Gillespie in “Yardbird” with Seattle Opera
