Get psyched for Ridgefield Independent Film Festival’s Psych Night! RIFF has spent all year looking for suspenseful, other-worldly, and kinda creepy shorts to freak you out. Now it’s time for us to share—if you dare! PSYCH Night is a perennial favorite at RIFF. These films are scary, funny, and guaranteed to twist your mind into knots. Leave the kids at home—you don’t want them to see you squirm. Ages 14+.
2021’s Psych Night will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. In “Hangin’ On The Telephone” a man calls into a radio contest with surprising results. In “Day of the 20,000 Gammon,” UK director Pip Swallow treats us to the story of Lolly, a butcher, who is told her shop has to close because of Brexit, but the Gammon (a pig’s head) pleads for their life to be saved. When Lolly cuts her finger on a tin of pineapple chunks, the gammon gets a taste for human blood and meaty hell is unleashed... “Mind Your Step” features a devout lobby boy, who becomes fixated with a precarious crack in the sidewalk and the safety of the guests at his movie theater, to the detriment of his potential love life. In Minsun Park & Teddy Tenenbaum’s ”Koreatown Ghost Story,” a supernatural horror tale based on a Korean ritual starring Margaret Cho and Lyrica Okano, a woman entertains a macabre marriage offer that would let her pursue her dreams, for better or for much much worse. Director Ali Mashayekhi’s ”The First Goodbye” takes us to the future where a woman downloads an app that helps connect her to her estranged wife for a brief time. And, Trevor Viner’s “Winter Break” takes us to a party with three college girls where things get weird, fast.
Psych Night screens at 8pm on Friday, October 8th at The Ridgefield Theater Barn.
