For the Love of Music at Jesse Lee Church on Sunday Featuring Christopher Grundy and Sarah Fox

“For the Love of Music” Fall Concert Series at Jesse Lee Church featuring Christopher Grundy, baritone and Sarah Fox, piano on October 17

Jesse Lee Music Presents “For the Love of Music,” a Fall concert series featuring performer-led repertoires. These concerts are a celebration of the music these talented artists love but haven’t been able to play when strict COVID restrictions were in place. Sarah Fox, Jesse Lee Church’s Music Director, finds that musicians and singers are truly at their best when they put their heart into the pieces they play. Both concerts, while diverse in their offerings, share the passion of these performers.

On October 17 “For the Love of Music” features baritone Christopher Grundy and Jesse Lee’s Sarah Fox for a three-part concert that celebrates music they both love.

Part one features folk music by John Jacob Niles, a popular 20th-century Appalachian folk singer. This music was selected for two reasons: first, it is part of the fabric of the music in Sarah’s home state of Kentucky, and secondly, the story-telling aspect of folk music offers a personal, expressive aspect of music that is a joy to perform and to experience.

Part two is made up of two classical pieces. One by Franz Schubert, the other by Gabrielle Faure. Coincidentally, both pieces are called Opus 21.

This concert closes out with a celebration of musical theater as an homage to Jesse Lee’s passion for incorporating Broadway show tunes into lessons about life and faith.
