The Meetinghouse in Ridgebury Invites the Community to a Free Creative Writing Workshop on Sunday

On Sunday, December 19 from 2:00-4:00pm, the community is invited to enjoy a quiet afternoon of creative writing when Ridgefield Poet Laureate and current Meetinghouse poet-in-resident Barb Jennes leads a free creative writing workshop titled "When Nature Speaks Through Us."

"It's an opportunity to create a series of guided prose or poetry responses to select artwork in the Meetinghouse gallery's current Spirituality and Nature exhibit," Jennes explains. Paintings and photographs by Jennie Carr, Alice Hayes, Nancy Moore, Adele Moros, and Kris Toohey are included in the show.

"This will be a serene and contemplative way to escape the stress of the holiday season for a couple of hours," Jennes notes, adding that ekphrastic writing - the literary act of responding to a visual work of art in poetry or prose - allows writer to tap into deeper emotional or spiritual meaning, often with surprising results.

Writers of all ages are welcome to attend.

The workshop is free; no reservations are required. Refreshments will be served.

"When Nature Speaks Through Us" is the most recent artistic installment celebrating Spirituality and the Arts, a central pillar of the Meetinghouse’s ongoing endeavor to ‘reclaim the Commons’ in Ridgebury.

The event will be hosted at the Meetinghouse, Shields Hall, 605 Ridgebury Road, Ridgefield.
