Five new events with a global flavor are coming soon to The Ridgefield Playhouse!

The Ridgefield Playhouse announces more new shows, these with a global flair.

Starting with two FREE events

Next Tuesday, April 12th brings the PREMIERE film screening of NAVALNY. This timely real-life thriller follows Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in his quest to identify the men who poisoned him in August 2020. As the story unfolds, the fascinating fly-on-the-wall documentary paints a portrait of a determined leader with the courage to stand up to tyranny at any cost.

The screening is at 7pm. Part of the Cohen and Wolf, P.C. Movie Series.

The CHARLES IVES MUSIC FESTIVAL (CIMF) on Sunday, August 7th is a summer chamber music festival based in Ridgefield and Danbury, CT offering aspiring youth musicians the opportunity to perform side-by-side with world-class professional artists in chamber music groups. The Festival honors the legacy of Charles Ives through performances of his works, music of other American composers and musicians, and music that transcends the traditional boundaries of classical music to incorporate other styles of music. This event is presented by People's United Bank FREE to the community and will be held outdoors in the Ridgefield Playhouse Tent. Part of the Classical Series.

DUANE BETTS TRIO will perform on Wednesday, June 29th at 8pm. Duane Betts was practically born with a guitar in his hands. Son of founding Allman Brothers Band member Dickey Betts, Duane cut his teeth touring with his father’s band, Dickey Betts & Great Southern. After stints as a touring guitarist for Dawes and a partnership with fellow Allman scion in the Allman Betts Project, Duane Betts now steps out front to lead his trio in a band richly steeped in blues, rock and country tradition. Part of the Pepsi Rock Series Driven by North American Motor Car.

Take a trip back to the Sixties on Sunday, July 31st at 4pm with SUMMER OF LOVE CONCERT, a transporting musical experience featuring many of the iconic songs that defined the love generation and changed the world along the way. Led by Glen Burtnik (of Styx and Beatlemania), the show features a cast of up to 18 performers, including a full horn section, a string quartet, multiple background vocalists and featured singers, along with a psychedelic light show and a setlist that includes classics from The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Stones, Janis, Jimi, Cream, Dylan and so many more. Designated by Nelson Mandela as “South Africa’s cultural ambassadors to the world,” LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO have been warming hearts with their uplifting vocal harmonies, signature dance moves and charming onstage banter for 60 years and counting. They’ll grace the Ridgefield Playhouse stage on Wednesday, August 17th at 8pm. The group was catapulted into International fame after lending vocals and inspiration to Paul Simon’s classic Graceland album in 1987. Since then, they have garnered 19 GRAMMY nominations with five wins, with their most recent album “Shaka Zulu Revisited” winning for Best World Music Album in 2018. Part of the World Music Series.
