The film title refers to the two verbs French children and beginners first learn – “to be” and “to have”. Director Nicolas Philibert won several awards for this touching, popular documentary.
This film will be shown with French subtitles for an immersive experience. French teacher Anette Roth will lead viewers through the film, with pauses for discussion and translation.
Synopsis: In a small village of rural France, devoted schoolteacher Georges Lopez sensitively educates 12 children, ages 4 to 11 years old.
